In his ‘A Rather Odd Confluence of D&D and Apocalypse World, or, A Die Mechanic Late-Night Absurdium’ post, over at the Story Games forums, Paul_T has shared some really interesting thoughts on combining the dice mechanics from Dungeons & Dragons and Apocalypse World . I think the resulting love-child is pretty awesome.
In this thread at the Story Games forums, improv exercises that might enhance the storytelling effectiveness and internal trust of a gaming group are being discussed. Jonas Ferry suggests one called Story Spine that I like the sound of. In it the participants tell a shared story based on specified phrases. One person starts and then the turn moves around the table.
As a long time fan of the Atomic Robo comic book series by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Atomic Robo: The Roleplaying Game from Evil Hat Productions. Well the wait is finally over as it’s now available for pre-order. If, like me, you’re in the UK then the recommended route is to pre-order from Leisure Games. This way you still get your free pdf through the Bits and Mortar program.
Adam Bosarge, Kyle Simons and Jason Faulk have launched their Kickstarter campaign for Worlds in Peril, a Superhero RPG based on the Apocalypse World engine. They look to be doing some interesting things with damage conditions and building characters from multiple mini-playbooks that represent their origin and drive/motivation (e.g. ‘See justice done’), plus I’ve been waiting for a *World game that cracks the superhero genre for a while. This is a strong candidate.
The Kickstarter campaign finishes on 12 May 2014.
It’s the last few days of the Saga of the Splintered Realm Kickstarter, which is Michael T Desing’s reimagining of classic B/X D&D with simplified rules and unified mechanics.
Pitching yet another version of classic D&D is a hard sell but I’ve followed Splintered Realm through various iterations and Mr Desing has some nice ideas. Take a look at the free playtest version up at DriveThruRPG and see what you think.
The Kickstarter campaign finishes on 13 Apr 2014.
I’m a big fan of Rob Donoghue and a follower of his The Walking Mind blog. So, when I read this post, it didn’t take me long to send off for the Sentinels of the Multiverse cooperative comic book card game by Greater Than Games. And what a great decision that turned out to be! Yesterday my wife and 4 year old daughter and I sat down for our first game and we had a blast. Heroes Wraith, Tachyon and Tempest took on Baron Blade in Megalopolis and narrowly prevented him from destroying the planet with his Terralunar Impulsion Beam, before Absolute Zero, Fanatic and Haka were crushed by Grand Warlord Voss’s Intergalactic Army in the savage land of Insula Primalis. More comic book superhero fun and excitement is sure to follow! I highly recommend this game!
Doc Unknown: Winter of the Damned and Others is a Kickstarter Campaign, being run by Fabian Rangel Jnr and Ryan Cody, for an all new 104 page Graphic Novel continuing the adventures of Gate City pulp action hero Doc Unknown. It’s well worth any fans of Hellboy and/or Planetary taking a look at the Kickstarter (Volume 2) and the original 4 issue series (Volume 1).
The Kickstarter campaign finishes on 9 April 2014.
