Blades in the Dark

Blades in the DarkJohn Harper of One Seven Design is currently pitching Blades in the Dark on Kickstarter. If you like “Powered by the Apocalypse” style games or you don’t want to miss out on the next big thing, stop reading this, head straight over there and pledge.

I’ve you want some flavour, check out this great Actual Play post on Sean Nittner’s blog. There’s also a couple of videos  of the same session linked from there.

The Kickstarter campaign finishes on 10 April 2015.

Spirit of 77

Spirit of 77Spirit of 77 is a Funky 1970’s Tabletop Role-Playing Game being pitched on Kickstarter by Bob Richardson and Dave Kizzia of Monkeyfun Studios. The game is set in an alternate pedal-to-the-metal, nitro-burning 1970’s that combines over-the-top action, kung-fu films, glam music and classic sci-fi.

It’s also powered by D. Vincent Baker’s Apocalypse World engine, with modifications to encourage amped up action – leaping cars, swinging from rooftops, blowing up tanker trucks, and punching bigfoot right in his hairy face. Can you dig it!

Lasers & Feelings – One Shot

Lasers & FeelingsNathan couldn’t make it to last Friday’s session of John H’s Legend of the Five Rings game, so I ran a one-shot of John Harper‘s Lasers & Feelings instead. And Wow! As usual, Mr Harper has packed an awesome amount of fun-filled goodness into less than a page of A4. I heartily recommend it!

Ben, Emma, John H and I had a blast and, though the rules are extremely compact, they were never found wanting. Everything we needed was right there on the sheet. Hats off to Mr Harper! He really knows what he’s doing.

The evening’s adventure went like this…

James D’Amato’s One Shot Dungeon World

One Shot PodcastHaving first stumbled upon James D’Amato’s One Shot podcast through the actual play he did with Will Hindmarch during the Project: Dark kickstarter, I tried listening to a few more episodes and discovered these hugely enjoyable Dungeon World sessions played by James, Kat Murphy, Maggie Dempsey, Alex Manich and Tricia Bobeda. It has to be the funniest actual play I’ve ever heard!.

Atomic Robo: The Roleplaying Game

Atomic Robo: The Roleplaying GameAs a long time fan of the Atomic Robo comic book series by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Atomic Robo: The Roleplaying Game from Evil Hat Productions. Well the wait is finally over as it’s now available for pre-order. If, like me, you’re in the UK then the recommended route is to pre-order from Leisure Games. This way you still get your free pdf through the Bits and Mortar program.

Worlds in Peril

Worlds in PerilAdam Bosarge, Kyle Simons and Jason Faulk have launched their Kickstarter campaign for Worlds in Peril, a Superhero RPG based on the Apocalypse World engine. They look to be doing some interesting things with damage conditions and building characters from multiple mini-playbooks that represent their origin and drive/motivation (e.g. ‘See justice done’), plus I’ve been waiting for a *World game that cracks the superhero genre for a while. This is a strong candidate.

The Kickstarter campaign finishes on 12 May 2014.
